EQ-5D Score

Developed in 1987 by The European Quality of Life Group, the EuroQol-5D (EQ-5D) is a widely used global health PRO measure used to quantify a patients health-related quality of life (HRQL). This self-reported tool measures patient health across five (5) domains: mobility, self-care, usual activities, pain/discomfort and anxiety/depression.

Applicable to a wide range of health conditions and treatments, the EQ-5D provides a simple descriptive profile and single index value for health status that can be used in the clinical and economic evaluation of health care. The original version of the EQ-5D-3L contained three (3) response options for each question: no, some or extreme problems. In 2005, a new version of the measure, the EQ-5D-5L, was released and contains five (5) response options: no, slight, moderate, severe or extreme. The EQ-5D-5L version was validated in a diverse patient population and measurement properties of this “EQ-5D-5L” measure were superior to the “EQ-5D-3L” tool.
