AAOS is evolving registry requirements across AJRR, ASR and SER. Here’s what it means for your data, reporting and compliance.
AAOS has updated registry development timelines, including AJRR, replacing the planned 2025 specification with a new 2026 version expected to go live in June 2026. CODE will align with this timeline and implement the AJRR, ASR, and SER reporting specifications once finalized to ensure clients remain aligned with AAOS registry requirements.
These registry updates require hospitals to reconfigure how data is structured, validated and submitted to remain compliant with evolving registry requirements.
In 2025, AAOS introduced updates across its registries, including the American Joint Replacement Registry (AJRR), releasing a new Master Data Dictionary and planning to sunset previous versions. However, AAOS has since replaced the 2025 AJRR specification and replaced it with a new 2026 version.
| AJRR (American Joint Replacement Registry) | SER (AAOS Shoulder & Elbow Registry) | ASR (AAOS American Spine Registry) |
| June 2026: 2025 specifications will no longer be accepted. June 2026 – July 1, 2027: Legacy AJRR specifications (pre-2025) may still be submitted during the transition. July 1, 2027: Only 2026 AJRR specifications will be accepted. | SER is transitioning to 2026 specifications, with new submissions beginning in 2026 and legacy formats no longer supported after Q3 2027. | AAOS has indicated that the 2026 Master Data Dictionary (MDD) will be released later in 2026. Additional details regarding submission timelines and transition requirements are expected following release. |
How CODE supports clients across evolving AAOS registry requirements
CODE was an early adopter of the 2025 AJRR specifications and released the 2025 AJRR Export within the CODE PRO application. Following AAOS’s transition to the 2026 specification, this reporting option has been retired. CODE is aligning development with the finalized 2026 AJRR, ASR, and SER specifications to ensure long-term stability and consistency across reporting. This approach allows clients reporting across AAOS registries—including total joints, spine, and shoulder and elbow—to remain aligned on a unified set of reporting standards.
CODE continues to support all PRO-PM requirements, ensuring clients remain aligned with evolving CMS and AAOS registry requirements.
